Watercolour Maxi Dress in Mexico

You know that one item in your closet that you rarely wear but refuse to give up?

For me it’s this open back watercolour maxi dress. I’ve had it for a few years now but have only worn it a handful of times. Once to a ballet (where I still felt overdressed because I live in Lululemonville), once for a fancy dinner at home just because, and last week in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. You’ve got to wear a dreamy maxi during sunset on the beach at least once in your life.

I’m not doing a travel diary for Mexico because we went to an all inclusive resort. Our vacation was literally eat, beach, sleep, repeat. Except for a kayak ride in the Caribbean where I learned that I’d be doomed if I were ever to get lost at sea. Normally I prefer exploring-type vacations. The kind where you walk around and discover your destination until your feet feel like they’re about to fall off. But sometimes it’s nice to escape reality and get an amazing tan. Really nice.

We did cheesy things like drink pina coladas, go for romantic walks on the beach, and eat guacamole and nachos for lunch every day. The vacation felt way longer than it actually was, and I think that’s due to our excessive beach bumming. Time flies when you stay busy, so chilling all day everyday for four days made it seem like eight.

We also shot almost every day, except for day 1 when we took a red-eye flight induced nap instead. I really love how the photos turned out, but with such a gorgeous backdrop it wasn’t hard to get good shots. Hope you enjoy this first installment and the rest of the photos to come!

OMG girl those pictures are so stunning!! It looks (and sounds) like you guys had an incredible time! The setting is amazing, and I definitely feel ya about time feeling different when you’re just kinda lounging and doing your own thing. It also helps if you’re just staying in one place since you don’t waste time in transit.

So glad that you enjoyed your vacation! I’d love to go somewhere tropical and relax on the beach sometime soon. 🙂

Aw thanks Nataliya! I think the sunset was a big help 🙂 and yeah, our resort was less than half an hour from the airport so we spent just under an hour on transit. We did get lost a few times on the resort though haha. Hope you get to go somewhere warm soon xx

The watercolor print of this dress makes it the perfect maxi to take on vacation, especially one that includes a beach! I also love the subtle cutouts, it really adds to the overall chicness of the outfit!

Sigh, so pretty! I have many dresses that I reserve for vacation. When you travel to poorer countries do you ever feel awkward wearing them though? I recently felt this when I went to Cuba. I even had someone ask me to leave my clothes there for them!

It’s from LK! I had to have it after staring at it every day for a season haha. Kind of, but not just for the dress in particular. When we arrived we had to go to a presentation where they gave us tips for our stay, and they told us that minimum wage was $4 a day in Mexico and I felt awkward and bad just for being there. They also told us that you can leave clothes as tips, I wish I knew because I would have gladly brought some for the workers.

is this WHITE I see? And PINK? and FLOWERS? So much color. It hurts my eyes. Maria, I have to honestly say, that you look beautiful. You look like Aphrodite. I’m sure your boy friend will agree. It’s a shame that you don’t get to wear that maxi more often because it is so gorgeous on you. And of course the back drop is fantastic, but hey it’s Mexico. I’m looking forward to the next post!

It is! Haha I’m so obsessed with that print. The dress is from back in my sales rep days from the brand I repped, and I got 2 other things in that print when the collection came out. Aww that’s so sweet Batsheva! I’ll try and wear it more this year. I’ll wear it out in the summer just for the hell of it for sure.
