I’m riding the velvet wave with this velvet slip dress. It’s getting dangerous working at Topshop. There are always so many cute new items that it can be hard to control myself. And it’s my job to make them look good (I’m a visual merchandiser by day), so I pretty much fall victim to my own work.
I already wore the dress to Vancouver Fashion Week (maybe you saw it on Instagram?) but didn’t shoot it. I know, bad fashion blogger, but it was my boyfriend’s birthday and I didn’t want him to have to take photos. I was surprised enough that he actually wanted to go to Fashion Week for his birthday! Maybe we’re slowly turning into each other. They do say that you are essentially a combination of the 5 people you’re closest to.
Anyway, for today’s post I wanted to show it off in a more casual way, if that’s possible. I chose to wear it 90s-style with an oversize cardigan and combat boots. I now have my own big black cardigan so I don’t always have to steal from my boyfriend. I actually love how it looks this way and kind of prefer it to heels and a ‘nice’ jacket.
Is it actually casual enough to wear for walking the dog? Probably not. Especially since we shot in a neighbourhood with mostly elderly people in sweatpants. I felt so fabulous I didn’t even care I was overdressed. And that is a great feeling.
Thanks for reading and cheers to the wonder fabric that is velvet! x
