The Non-Girly Girly: Teddy Coat, Lace Top & Boyfriend Jeans

Every once in a while we have theme days at work where we dress up in the given theme. The last one we had was a feminine, girly theme: ruffles, florals, gingham. Pretty much nothing I own – except for lace. This was the look I put together: a teddy coat, lace top & boyfriend jeans.

Ok, I slightly modified it for the blog. I swapped ankle boots for Converse (for comfort) and added fishnets (for warmth). I also passed on the hat from the original outfit, just to show my hair the light of day. The result: probably the most ghetto fabulous outfit I’ve ever worn. Do people still say that? Idk, but I kind of felt like a badass female rapper with my faux fur, loose jeans and high tops. I was also pretty inspired by this rapper my boyfriend found on YouTube. He’s been into obscure hip hop lately.

Even though I bent the rules, I liked the challenge of dressing in a style different than my own. It helped me make it my own. I’ve always loved playing dress up. That’s the beauty of fashion – you can be a chameleon. And it’s fun to switch things up every once in a while, like a super subtle Halloween. Though Karl Lagerfeld always looks cool in his suit and sunglasses, I’m not sure if I could stick to a uniform. I think I did enough of that in elementary school.

Thanks for reading! Do you experiment with opposite styles or are you a uniform person?

If I was a rapper this would so be my album cover photo

I try different styles but I also adore uniforms. It feels comfortable to wear a uniform (certain oufits for certain occasions) but I don’t do it all the time. I change to see how it goes. Kisses!

I agree, I have some trusted outfits I love to repeat but sometimes change is good.

The fur coat is amazing! Love how you made the girly theme look edgy. I like to experiment with different styles, but I always gravitate towards edgy pieces.

I think it’s so incredibly fun to experiment with different styles! I definitely enjoy playing dress-up and going opposite of what I would normally wear. My everyday style is all about easy comfort while retaining a bit of edge. When I go out for a nice dinner though I love to sport a high heel and try to get the bombshell look out. Like you said, that’s the fun part of fashion!!

Agreed! I do love getting all glammed up every once in a while but usually I keep it pretty comfortable and casual.
