Every once in a while we have theme days at work where we dress up in the given theme. The last one we had was a feminine, girly theme: ruffles, florals, gingham. Pretty much nothing I own – except for lace. This was the look I put together: a teddy coat, lace top & boyfriend jeans.
Ok, I slightly modified it for the blog. I swapped ankle boots for Converse (for comfort) and added fishnets (for warmth). I also passed on the hat from the original outfit, just to show my hair the light of day. The result: probably the most ghetto fabulous outfit I’ve ever worn. Do people still say that? Idk, but I kind of felt like a badass female rapper with my faux fur, loose jeans and high tops. I was also pretty inspired by this rapper my boyfriend found on YouTube. He’s been into obscure hip hop lately.
Even though I bent the rules, I liked the challenge of dressing in a style different than my own. It helped me make it my own. I’ve always loved playing dress up. That’s the beauty of fashion – you can be a chameleon. And it’s fun to switch things up every once in a while, like a super subtle Halloween. Though Karl Lagerfeld always looks cool in his suit and sunglasses, I’m not sure if I could stick to a uniform. I think I did enough of that in elementary school.
Thanks for reading! Do you experiment with opposite styles or are you a uniform person?
