There’s no doubt that little black dress is a classic and the little white dress is the fresh and romantic, but the little red dress has a certain je ne sais quoi. I now understand why Lana Del Rey sings about them so much.
I’m in love with this little red dress. It gives me that ‘just right’ feeling that Goldilocks must have had – it’s made of the softest faux suede, the colour has just enough deepness, it has those cool silver details details and that effortlessly flirty silhouette. I feel just the right amount of femininity – when I wear it I all of a sudden feel like wearing dresses every day.
Though really, I’m not much of a dress girl or a girly girl in general. I’m not a tomboy either – I guess I’m somewhere in the middle. I played with barbies and dolls but I remember giving them funny haircuts and trying to make them clothes out of strange materials like balloons. I preferred quirky Roald Dahl stories to the Disney princess ones. At my high school graduation I think I was the only girl who chose a sleek mini dress instead of a mermaid gown.
And now – I like looking good but I can’t be bothered to spend hours doing my hair and makeup. I like flowers but I only buy orchids because they at least stay alive for longer than a week. I don’t mind chick flicks/shows but I prefer the ones with hot mess characters like the Mindy Project.
Dresses have and will always been symbolic of femininity, and I’m glad to have found one that reflects mine so well. What’s your perfect dress?
