Who else is excited for the new season of Game of Thrones?
It’s one of my favourite TV shows. I’m a huge nerd when it comes to fantasies, can you tell from my blog name (it’s from the second Alice in Wonderland book)? Since I was little I was obsessed with Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia … anything with magic and/or talking animals and I was sold. It’s probably why I chose a unicorn for my first tattoo.
You can imagine how much adult me loves Game of Thrones, but not just for the dragons. I love the suspense, crazy plot twists, and it’s also very visually appealing (location and costume-wise). I always look forward to seeing the intricate hairstyles and dresses that the ladies in the show wear.
There’s one in particular I like to pay attention to, and that is the one and only Daenaerys Targaryen. And not just because she’s the badass mother of dragons, but because she’s my height! Remember how tiny she looked next to Khal Drogo?
Funnily enough this is pretty much how short I look next to my boyfriend.
Anyway, Daenaerys has some of the most beautiful costumes on the show. In real life we probably won’t have a lot of occasions (or any, except for Halloween) to rock such intricate gowns, but we can still get inspiration!
Style Tips From Daenaerys Targaryen
Don’t be afraid of layering. Want to wear a skirt over your pants? Go for it. Just make sure it’s a lightweight fabric, has a nice flow to it, and you’re wearing something fitted underneath. I feel like a lot of petite women are afraid of wearing longer layers but they can totally pull it off. If you’re really concerned about wearing too much fabric showing off a little skin never hurts, like Daenaerys’ crop top or keyhole bustier.
Flowy maxi dresses look amazing – but only if the flow starts below the waist. If you’re worried about the fabric looking too heavy go for a sheer style. After all, it’s a style women of all sizes and heights have been wearing since clothes were invented. And I don’t know about you, but I feel a bit like a queen when I’m wearing a really pretty maxi dress.
Capes look suprisingly good. If Daenaerys can pull one off, so can we. Since they draw the eye down the entire length of your body, they will actually make you look taller! And if you’re worried about a cape being too dramatic or looking too costume-y (because real life isn’t Game of Thrones .. not sure if that’s fortunate or unfortunate), try a full-length jacket or cardigan instead.
Thanks for reading! Whose style do you like the most on Game of Thrones? I also love Margaery Tyrell’s.
