I’ve jumped on the velvet train.
I’ve said before that I try not to follow trends unless I genuinely like them. I hope you believe me, even though I’ve tried many trends this year (lace-up, cold shoulder, off the shoulder). But I swear I love them all. Same goes for velvet, which is huge even though fall just started. I love a good texture, and velvet looks/feels amazing.
The key to making trends your own is wearing them with old favourites. That’s exactly what I did with this stripes & velvet look. I’ve had this blazer for years (surprisingly I haven’t worn it on the blog yet), and I’ve loved stripes and leather for ages. I’m also wearing velvet in the form of combat boots, another item I wear a lot.
I think it’s ok to follow trends, as long as you stay genuine. For example, off the shoulder tops. I’m not into the flowy boho look, so I never got a flowy OTS top (the kind that seemingly 90% of girls wore this summer). Instead, I opted for a dark/fitted version that was more me. And I’ll continue to wear it for as long as I like it, even if some magazine declares the style over. Just like I continue to wear hi-lo skirts. I still think they’re pretty!
As for velvet? So far I only have the boots and a dress, and I won’t buy any more velvet things unless they truly amaze me.
Thanks for reading! What do you think of following trends?
