I’m all for having a diverse wardrobe, but there are rare times when I end up buying the same thing in different colours. Like these red velvet leggings. I bought black ones in September or October, thinking my velvet legging craving was satisfied. Then this gorgeous red version came out a few weeks later. For a while I tried to sell myself against them, but my wall of self-control came crashing down and I got them. And so what?
It feels like there’s a negative association with buying multiples of clothes. You’re automatically a crazy shopaholic or something. But most people have a thing they probably spend a bit too much money on. My boyfriend is obsessed with buying random stuff online & motorcycle gear. Some girls have mini Sephoras in their bathrooms. Some people can’t go without their daily Starbucks.
I’m not trying to promote consumerism. I don’t go shopping every week. I’m not the girl who’s wearing new clothes every time you see her. I’m the girl that tries to pack her lunch every day and buys tights at the dollar store (I refuse to pay more than a few dollars for something that I know will rip after a few wears). But when the urge strikes me and I want to treat myself, I don’t feel guilty about it.
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it’s still a good way to blow off steam every now and then. I’m a financially independent adult and if I want to buy another pair of velvet leggings, I will!
Thanks for reading! How do you like to treat yourself?
