Los Angeles Travel Diary

Continuing on from last post, my Venice Beach & Santa Monica travel diary. We spent Saturday and Sunday in Los Angeles itself, or at least partially. If I understand correctly, Los Angeles is actually small but Los Angeles County is huge. It’s made up of a bunch of cities like Beverly Hills, Malibu, Venice Beach and Santa Monica. But you can still call them LA. We don’t have counties in Canada, so I don’t completely get it.

Anyway, I’ll pick up where I left off.

Saturday, 7:00 AM: Woke up. We had planned to go to the beach for a bit, but it was cloudy and cool when we left so we decided to go straight to breakfast.

8:00 AM: Ate breakfast at the Blue Daisy Cafe with 2 cute dogs. Probably stared at them too much but we couldn’t help it. The food was good too!

9:00 AM: Ordered a Lyft into Los Feliz, where our Airbnb for the next two nights was. Were once again delighted with how fast our ride arrived.

9:30 AM: Arrived at Airbnb.ย Admired its cuteness. The more I use Airbnb, the more I prefer it to hotels. I like the privacy and how you really feel like you’re at home.

10:30 AM: Ordered Lyft to LACMA. Enjoyed another pleasant chat with our Lyft driver.

11:00 AM: Arrived at LACMA. Took obligatory photos at the columns. It is a bit cliche, but they do make a good backdrop.

11:15 AM: Cultured ourselves with the modern and classic art in the museum.

1:00 PM: Started our journey to Beverly Hills when we found a Bernie Sanders cafe! Kirill has been really into the US elections (and has drawn me in too), and we were fans of Bernie. I really feel bad for American voters this year.

1:30 PM: After half an hour of walking to Beverly Hills, we had seen maybe two people on the sidewalk. Started getting creeped out. Were we in a ghost town? Does everyone just get a car when they turn 16 or when they move here? Where do paparazzi take those celebrity street shots if not in Beverly Hills? I heard that no one walks in LA but I didn’t think it would be so literal.

2:00 PM (or maybe 2:30 PM): Arrived at Rodeo Drive and were relieved to see some people again.

3:30 PM: Lunch at Chipotle. We were balancing out our more expensive dinner and breakfast. And when in America, right?

4:00 PM: Continue walking around Beverly Hills.ย After just walking down some business street (we saw the Playboy office lol) for half an hour, we decided to get a Lyft back to our Airbnb and relax for a bit because our legs were tired from all the walking.

6:00 PM: Airbnb neighbour noticed us and invited us to come and say hi. We ended up hanging out and chatting for a few hours! More points to Airbnb, because we never would have had that experience in a hotel.

8:00 PM: Went to the Walk of Fame. Couldn’t find any stars we recognized for about a block, then found Pitbull’s star. Yes, Pitbull has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Continue on for a few blocks and recognize a few more names (Charlie Sheen, Jim Parsons, Jackie Chan, Neil Patrick Harris).

Please excuse the cell phone pic and repeat outfit. We didn’t feel like carrying a lot with us at night, and the nights were colder than I expected. I thought I could just wear my jacket over my dresses so I didn’t bring any extra jeans.

9:00 PM: Found the Chinese Theatre. Didn’t recognize most of the handprints except for Matt Damon.

9:30 PM: Came across some crazy huge outdoor mall and wandered around there.

11:00 PM: Lyfted back home.

Sunday, 10:00 AM: Woke up. We didn’t have a concrete plan for the day so we got to sleep in ๐Ÿ™‚

10:30 AM: Found out that a bus to Malibu was 2.5 hours, so decided instead to get coffee/breakfast in Silver Lake, an area our neighbour had recommended the night before.

11:00 AM: Lyfted to Silver Lake. Had reallyย goodย coffee and a breakfast burrito at Cafecito Organico. Even though it was tasty, decided that I need to take a burrito break after LA.

11:30 AM: Started wandering around Silver Lake. It was pretty much just houses. Eventually stumbled upon a park with a lake, but it was dried up. I guess the drought in California is serious than I thought.

2:00 PM: Smoothie break and decided to make our way to Griffith Park since we were pretty close.

3:00 PM: Arrived at Griffith Park observatory. Admired the view and took photos.

4:30 PM: Started walking back home. Turns out we were super close to the park, about 20 minutes from the observatory (close for LA, at least). Chilled at home for a while.

7:00 PM: Ordered a Lyft to Sunset Boulevard. We had only drove through and we thought it would be interesting to see at night. It’s mainly clubs and restaurants.

7:30 PM: Found a cheesy American steakhouse for dinner. Kirill ordered a steak that was bigger than his head. Luckily for me they had veggie burgers, so I ordered one that was slightly smaller than my head. Neither of us were able to finish our meals.

9:00 PM: Continued walking down Sunset Strip. Were still surprised at the lack of people (except for lineups outside of clubs or people smoking outside of bars).

10:00 PM: Ordered a Lyft home so we could get ready for our flight in the morning.

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed both parts of my diary/found it helpful if you’re planning a trip to LA ๐Ÿ™‚
