Little Olive Dress in Mexico (The Best Type Of Dress For Petites)

I’m living vicariously through these photos from Mexico. It’s been snowing all weekend. By now it’s taller than Lady! Of course, it came right after all the original snow finished melting and we had a week of +10 weather.

Anyway, flashback to warmer days in this little olive dress. I’m not really a neutrals girl (sorry, if I’m going to wear colour I want it to pop), but olive is growing on me. I bought the dress because it was cute and on sale for $15, but it turned out to be a really good buy!

The Best Type of Dress For Petites

I’m not the biggest fan of bodycons. I know, I’m small and I shouldn’t fear tight clothes. Still, I’m more drawn to the comfort of loose clothes. I have this irrational fear that my stomach will bloat to three times its size whenever I wear a bodycon dress. I don’t feel shy in a bikini, but the self-consciousness kicks in big time if I’m wearing something that clings to every curve and line.

This dress is special. It makes me feel good. I think the fabric plays a big role. It’s soft, stretchy, and not constricting at all. It doesn’t cling – it gently hugs. But what makes it the best is the cutouts. They break up the dress and make your legs look super long. The fit of the dress doesn’t really matter – last week’s flowy maxi also had waist cutouts that gave the same effect.

What do you think of cutout dresses?

By the way, these photos were taken on the grounds of the resort we stayed at. It’s called the Ocean Coral & Turquesa in case anyone is interested. I loved the colourful buildings, the palm garden/tropical hut walkway, and the terrace overlooking the sea. The staff were friendly and patient, especially the barmen. They had a pretty good food selection. Buffets for breakfast and lunch and 5 restaurants to choose from for dinner (though a lot of them are closed on Sunday).

The only downsides were that there were always people trying to sell tours, massages, photos, etc. They were never aggressive but we got asked several times a day. I also found the pool water to be a bit cold, but I prefer beaches to pools so it wasn’t a big deal. We enjoyed our stay there, it was very relaxing. It’s a quieter resort with an older crowd than a party one, but I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a chill beach getaway.

Thanks Jessi! I love that I can also wear it in the city with a leather jacket and boots or sneakers.

I am seriously digging the cutout details of this olive green dress! Perfect for a warm vacation! The only problem I have as a petite person with cutouts is that sometimes the cutouts are too loose on me so there is a big gap between the cutout and my body lol. The one you have on is a the perfect fit!

You blurb about petites had me perk up in my chair. As I am of the tall and built stature of 5″nothing. I’ve never tried cut outs before..I wonder why. It’s funny, I’m also very small, but tend to go for more loose clothes as well. Every time I wear something more fitted, someone always has to comment ” You look very skinny today, Batsheva”. like come on! You calling my loose clothes fat making or something? Hmph!
Lovely photos, and dress– as usual.

Yay for another petite! Hope you’ll like them if you give them a try 🙂 That’s rude! Loose clothes are amazing. But tight clothes are sometimes nice too!

It’s funny but I’m totally like you when it comes to colors and the fit of the dress. I’m really not into tight/bodycon stuff, though I have no issue with my body or how I feel in a bikini and stuff. I’m just really into loose clothing. This dress looks amazing on you! I should look into an option like it for a beachy vacay.

What a beautiful outfit for your resort stay. I don’t know which one I love more, the outfit or the resort :-). Honestly I wouldn’t though of buying this dress from topshop until I see how you wear it. Simply stunning.

Thanks Christina! I like that olive can work any time of the year. Once it’s a bit warmer here at home I’d like to wear it with a leather jacket and boots.
