This is probably the lightest outfit I’ve ever posted.
The only fully black thing I’m wearing are the patent leather boots. But it’s still a very me outfit – mixed textures and a cool print. Sometimes I surprise myself when it comes to fashion. I can’t always explain why I want to wear certain things.
I have been wanting a teddy coat for a while though. They’re more fun than wool coats and less dramatic than big faux furs (which means less overwhelming on a petite frame). I’m glad I came across this one because it’s so soft, and I got it on sale for only $25 on Aliexpress! It’s not the most practical coat for rainy Vancouver, but on dry days when I can wear it, it’s honestly a treat. Equal parts cozy and cool.
I threw it over the ultimate comfy outfit: a sweatshirt and jeans. I love that it’s now socially acceptable to wear jeans and a sweatshirt with basically anything. Heels, fur coats, dressy boots… though you wouldn’t expect it, the result is so much better than the classic jeans/sweatshirt/sneakers combo.
So why did I go for light instead of dark? It was a combination of taking advantage of the (generally) mild day we were having, and wanting to switch things up. The concept of a uniform seems impossible to me. I get bored wearing the same thing over and over again and I try to keep my outfits as diverse as I can. I’d be a terrible cartoon character.
We all know the importance of trying new things and not getting stuck in your comfort zone. So do something out of your ordinary. Wear an outfit that isn’t typically you and visit a part of town you don’t always go to. It’s refreshing to break routine every once in a while.
