Luxe Casual: Lace-Up Pants & Velvet Hoodie

IMHO one of the best fashion quotes is “never say never in fashion, because you’ll be wearing never in two years time” (Alexa Chung). Unless you’ve got a strict uniform, it’s true. Once upon a time I wouldn’t consider wearing a hoodie outside of a gym, but here I am wearing one of my new favourite outfits: a leather jacket, lace-up pants & velvet hoodie.

I’ve always had a thing for lace-up; these aren’t my first lace-up pants. I bought a pair of backย lace-up leggingsย when I was about 15 (sale Adidas by Stella McCartney, woo!). They’re still my go-to workout bottoms. I always wanted a non-sporty pair but never saw any until this year.

I’m seriously impressed with these ones from SheIn. The fit is absolutely perfect which is so rare for buying pants online. They start right at my natural waist and end just above my ankles. Petite girls know what a big deal that is. The shipping was also pretty fast because SheIn has a distribution centre in Alberta (that’s where the from address was on the package). Great news for my fellow Canadians.

The hoodie is proof that if it’s velvet, I probably want it. That, and I was starting to feel a bit guilty about always borrowing Kirill’s hoodies (*wears his hoodie while typing this*). I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers have stopped wearing velvet but the obsession is still strong with me. It’s everything I want in a fabric: shiny, nice to touch, and comfortable. It’s known as a winter fabric, but I think it’s spring/summer appropriate when done in lighter colours. I’ve picked up a few pieces that can testify. Everything looks better in velvet, doesn’t it?

Do you have any fashion ‘nevers’ that you started wearing?

Lace up details are everywhere lately! I love the pants! Shows your tattoos underneath how cool!
    I love velvet too!

You look great on those lace up pants Maria! I also love velvet, but my obsession is really suede (another soft and gorgeous material I would have all my accessories in!!) – my big never at the moment is the dressed up tracksuits, either pants or zip-up jackets. I see the it girls rocking this kind of look and I love it on them, but I would never venture out of the house wearing that if not going to the gym and never with a pair of heels! hahahah

    Happy week, dear!

Thanks Saida! I love suede too and have several suede pieces. I’m actually waiting for a pair of chiffon joggers and I’m pretty excited about them! I think the right fabric can make a huge difference. I consider the hoodie I’m wearing my fancy hoodie and don’t wear it to the gym lol.

That’s a good quote to think about. I agree that velvet just makes things better. I don’t care if everyone ditches that fabric completely in a year or two. I’ll probably still wear it. The only fashion nevers that I can think of are just color and dresses. When I was younger I went through a black phase and then another where I didn’t want to wear dresses. That’s obviously no longer the case but I’m not sure what made me change my mind.

Same! I was actually disappointed at myself for not wearing it before, it’s really warm and cozy for the winter too. I think we’ve all been through some unexplainable phases lol.

The lace-up pants are so cool! I barely know people who can get away with that style but you absolutely rock it! Love how you can see your tattoo, it really adds something! Lot’s of love! Sofie.

Aw thanks! Yeah, I’m glad this pair is the open kind rather than the kind that has lace-up above the fabric. I can’t often show my tattoos that high up and still be (reasonably) appropriate.

Wow those leggings are perfect!! I’d definitely rock those! I also steal my husband’s hoodies lol. Today I’m wearing my own, but his are always comfier for some reason!

In terms of wearing ‘never’ pieces..hmmm..I never thought I’d wear the fuzzy 90’s looking sweaters, but I recently bought one and love it!!

Thanks Nataliya! Maybe because they tend to be roomier? I love this one but I’m afraid to just chill at home in it because it is velvet and I tend to be clumsy. Fuzzy sweaters are the best, to me they’re comfier than traditional knits.

Fashion nevers…well, when I was 12, I used to love wearing electric blue argyle knee highs with my purple starred vans. Simply because I could get away with it. “I’m still 12”, was LITERALLY my stock excuse, as if I was taking advantage of my youth before I didn’t have it any longer. So that is a fashion I will NEVER do again. But, if we are talking about fashion nevers– I really don’t like sweater/blouse combos. I think they are deathly boring, but hey, you never know, maybe there is a way to spice it up. I love these photos! And the combination of the leather jacket and hoodie. Quite original!

That actually sounds like an amazing outfit, especially if it was all electric blue and cobalt! I don’t really care for those either. Or blouses and blazers, way too corporate. But I agree, with the right bottoms it could be cool. Thank you!
