How To Wear Glitter Boots

Remember these crazy boots I wore to Vancouver Fashion Week? Crazy is always fashion week appropriate, but I wanted to share how to wear glitter boots in a more casual/everyday way.

Statement shoes have been big this season. Furry slides are probably the most common example but anything printed, colourful, or sparkly counts. Styling them is actually pretty easy. I kept it simple with jeans & a tee, but added my jellyfish bomber jacket and mirrored sunglasses to really wanted to get into the glittery unicorn mood. My Arctic Monkeys tee is more interesting than a plain white tee, and now I can say I’m the brunette-o-sonic glitter trap. Points if you get that reference.

The boots were a total impulse purchase. They were on sale for super cheap (gotta love Aliexpress) and I thought they were cool. When they actually arrived I was a bit nervous to wear them. Like they were too raver kid for me and maybe I should have gotten them in black instead. Then I reminded myself that I bought them in white for a reason and braved taking them out into the world.

So far I’ve only worn them a few times: to fashion week, a Snoop Dogg concert, to work, and for this shoot. Every time I felt a bit self-conscious, but I also always got compliments that eliminated any buyer’s remorse. And sometimes they were from the most unexpected people. During this shoot a corporate-type woman who I wouldn’t expect to wear similar shoes told me she loved them.

Moral of the story: don’t be afraid of statement shoes (or statement anything, really)! Glitter might not be your thing but maybe you’ve had your eye on something else. Who knows, they may end up being your next favourite pair of shoes.

I actually really want to try those floral print sock boots but so far haven’t found ones I really love… and I get too excited after my super long reply about blogger should get commission subject you mentioned on my post… now I can’t sleep and thinking to write my next post (moaning) about it. haha and of course we should! on top of that, the company should pay for all the product placements!!

    • Maria

Thanks, it is a really cool spot and took me way too long to visit it (especially since it’s just a few blocks down from my work). Lol I’m excited for your next post! And agreed, so many companies don’t want to pay 🙁

Amazing post and what a cool shoot! How great is that alley in Vancouver! I used to walk past it everyday to work.

I have some wacky platform red shoes that look like Willy Wonka pimped up bowling shoes. I love rocking them 🙂

    • Maria

Thanks! I didn’t know you were from Vancouver too 🙂 Can you believe it was my first time there, even though I only work a few blocks up from it?

Thank you! It is a cool spot, it’s been around for about a year now but I only went for the first time for this shoot!

  • Batsheva

THERE’S THE DUMPSTER PIC FROM INSTAGRAM!!!! I loved that pic. Honestly, those shoes are still subtle– they are just still so rad. Don’t be afraid to wear anything– if you rock it, it will end up looking normal in people’s eyes because you are so confident in it. And any ways– these shoes, while sparkly and amazingly awesome, go so well with your outfit, that you have normalized them into something extremely wearable and cute– yet just on a higher, more awesome scale. AND I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS OUTFIT. Everything from the jelly bomber, down to your arctic monkeys and tee and squarely shoes.

    • Maria

Thank you! It’s the coolest dumpster in town 😀 They’re sparklier in real life so not as subtle, but I think I’ve worn them enough to get over my initial hesitation. I found a way to make them me. But agreed – confidence is everything.

  • Thanh Nguyen

Oh my gosh, I love the outfit! You definitely made a colour obsessed gal proud! You barely have any black on the whole outfit! One of my favorite looks yet! <3

    • Maria

Ever since I started merchandising and working with colour more, it’s gotten so much easier to wear it. I also have to read sales reports now and black stuff always sells better, so now I kind of don’t want to wear black because everyone else is wearing it haha. Thanks Tan-Tan 🙂

  • Elisabete Carinha

love that glitter shoes.. the photos look super cool babe 🙂

  • Nataliya

Girl, I think this was an awesome impulse buy! I know what you mean about being a bit self-conscious about wearing them out, but I think they look awesome on you and you can definitely pull the look off.

Actually, I would love to have a pair of my own lol! I think it lends a glitter-rock edge to a look, especially since you’re very rock’n’roll with your style.

    • Maria

Thanks Nataliya! I think it was because they’re white. If they were black I’d be more in my comfort zone but I’ve gotten over it, and I specifically bought the white version because almost all my shoes are black 🙂
