We all know that cropped jackets and coats are flattering on petites, but what if I told you maxi coats look just as good?
It may not seem like an obvious choice, but I recently got my first one and am obsessed. Just like a maxi dress, it will elongate your body using the vertical lines rule. The two sides of the coat act as two vertical lines that make you look taller! And it also comes down to the styling.
How To Wear A Maxi Coat If You’re Petite
As always, the key here is volume and balance. Mine is actually a size too big – it was another amazing sale find at only $30 (!!) and was the smallest size left. Luckily I like my coats a bit oversize, and I got quite a few compliments the first time I wore it so it’s fine in my books. I just make sure to wear it with fitted things underneath, like this choker crop top and grey high waisted skinny jeans. Maintaining a waistline with maxi coats is essential.
I’ve always shied away from these types of coats, which I now regret. As someone who gets cold easily it’s really nice having all that extra coverage down my back. And the feeling it gives me when it dramatically blows in the wind! My boyfriend called it my Sherlock Holmes coat, but it kind of does make me feel like some badass from the turn of the century. It’s definitely an eye-catching style among all the short coats.
The mint colour also plays a big role. It makes me happy. I like being the girl in the light coat when everyone else is wearing black. All black everything is undeniably stylish, but it’s also easy and predictable (especially in Vancouver). Colour can be harder to style, but it’s more fun to wear. I’ll still probably be wearing some form of black every day, but I’m making an effort to inject a lot more colour into my OOTDs.
What do you think of maxi coats?
