The 70s and 90s are having their moment in fashion, but there’s one decade I’ll always love: The 60s.
I think the 60s were a really interesting decade in general: with the rise of rock n roll, hippies, feminism … all of a sudden people were becoming so different and open-minded. I think it was the start of our modern world in terms of people starting to live and think differently, especially compared to the 50s.
With so changes going on in the world it’s only natural the fashion reflected the times. Women were beginning to challenge the stereotypical sense of femininity. Instead of the typical hourglass figure, it was all about the leg. A shift dress or top/mini skirt and tall skinny boots – that’s definitely my kind of sexy. The bold graphics and lines on clothing and makeup. I really wish I could do a proper Twiggy eye and one of those voluminous hairstyles.
What I can do is wear a black and white fuzzy leopard sweater over a little chiffon shift dress, round sunglasses, and my mod-inspired over the knee boots. I’ve been trying to get as much wear as I can out of them since I got them fairly late in the season.
The only thing that’s missing from this outfit is pin straight hair (which mine refuses to be) and a beret. But I had just gotten my hair done and didn’t want to ruin it with a hat, and I also didn’t want to look like I was going to a Halloween party (although a mod girl is now an easy costume option for me come October).
Thanks for reading! What’s your favourite decade for fashion?
