Fishnets & Ripped Jeans

So fishnets are now socially acceptable. Or maybe just fashionably acceptable. In any case, they’re being layered under everything these days. If you haven’t noticed, here I am wearing fishnets & ripped jeans.

I’ve been layering tights under jeans since I moved to Canada when I was 8. There are certain habits you learn growing up in a Russian home. Seriously layering up in the cold is one of them. My mom wouldn’t let me leave the house if I wasn’t dressed warm enough. My boyfriend now carries on the tradition because he knows how easily I get cold.

In college I used to wear coloured tights under my ripped jeans, but for some reason I stopped. I guess our past few winters have been mild enough that I didn’t need extra layers. We did have a few cold snaps but they were too cold for ripped jeans.

Now that the look is officially in fashion, I decided to give it another try with fishnets. And I like the result. Layering makes them as down to earth as notoriously sexy tights can be. I also think wearing them grunge-style with an oversize metallic sweater, velvet combat boots, beanie, and shearling jacket helped.

Probably not what my mom would have in mind for a warm winter outfit, but I swear the fishnets are suprisingly warm. Especially since they’re made up of hundreds of tiny holes. These photos were taken on a day when the temperature was around freezing and I was actually ok (seriously mom!).

Moral of the story: don’t ever stop doing your own unique styling tricks. One day they’ll be in fashion and you’ll look like a pioneer. Also don’t be afraid of wearing things that you think are too sexy – there’s always a way to dress them down. Thanks for reading! What do you think of fishnets?

Oh my God I remember I wore fishnets (to the knee) and I loved them so much. They are great as I can see under ripped jeans. Thats something I would like to try. Kisses!

I LOVE the tights under ripped pants look– its so unique and so different from what everyone else in this world does. it’s funny– the fishnets under your tights don’t make you look provocative at all– they just give you this aura of grungy sophisticatedness that really really works. I uberly love this look. And you gotta know me– I’m a sucker for anything with combat boots in them. like really. Honestly– great job!

Thanks Batsheva! Haha it’s funny, I actually have a bunch of fishnets but I’ve been scared to wear them (didn’t want to look slutty). Then when I put this outfit on my boyfriend was like, “why don’t you dress sexy like this more often?” I’m a total sucker for combat boots too! I ordered a glitter pair recently and can’t wait to receive them.

I think the fishnets are great but I was pretty distracted by those awesome boots! I live for combat boots so I have to get my hands on something similar ASAP. I used to wear dresses and skirts over pants in high school and so when people started wearing them in street style snaps I chuckled to myself.

Love every part of this look👌 you look so cool. And the funny thing is I grew up in super warm country but met a girl from Russia too when I was studying in Paris and she taught me that layering is actually the best way to keep warm. Maybe that’s why I really like layering too:)) but well probably not this London winter. Super warm ✌and I will give the netting tights a go too :))
