Faux Fur In The Snow

Happy New Year! How did you all celebrate?

Mine was interesting. I was actually half asleep by 10 when my friend invited me to watch the fireworks. We decided to go to a secret viewpoint and ended up missing 80% of them. By the time we got to the spot they were over. It was still cool ringing in the new year on an obscure snowy trail by the water, overlooking the city. We were the only people there. It’s a NYE that will stand out amongst the house parties and clubs.

Now I’m starting the year off fabulous with new hair (did you see it on instagram?) and faux fur in the snow. I haven’t had a chance to take photos yet this year, so these are from December after one of the first snow days. It’s been the coldest/snowiest winters I can remember. It almost feels like being in another city.

Vancouver is usually in its own mild and rainy bubble. An average winter is usually between 0 and 10 degrees, with maybe one or two snow days (that gets melted away by the rain the next day). Dealing with the white stuff and freezing temperatures for almost a month now has been an adjustment – for everyone. It only took a few days for everyone to start calling it the snowpocalypse.

As much as I complain about the cold weather and snow, I’m kind of glad it happened. It’s like I got to experience a real Canadian winter and it’s toughened me up. It’s given me the I can get through anything attitude. I survived -30 in Saskatchewan, -7 in Vancouver (which feels almost as bad as -40), +40 in Turkey and probably Australia (though I actually kind of liked it), I survived getting tattooed on the most sensitive parts of my legs for hours, terrible jobs … the list goes on.

I’m not really doing resolutions this year (don’t we always want to eat healthier and work outΒ more?), but I do want to focus on kindness. To other people and to myself. I have a tendency to overthink things and to be harsh on myself sometimes. Instead, this year I want to remind myself of all that I’m capable of. To see the big picture instead of nitpicking and possibly causing problems.

People are tougher than they think they are. We can get through the most intense of situations and end up laughing about them later. And we should celebrate that. So when the cold and snow hits (unless you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that doesn’t happen), swap your puffer for a glamourous faux fur and embrace it. Mine is actually my warmest coat!

lol. You are in (gorgeous) winter white, and meanwhile, I went on a shopping spree, and when I got home, and looked in the bag–just to review what I bought– I realized that EVERYTHING WAS BLACK. ALL OF IT.
And yes, I admit, I am one of those cliched people who want to exercise more and eat healthier. (but I am very health conscious anyway). It makes me so happy to hear you say that you want to work on kindness- both for other people and for yourself. I feel as if kindness is a muscle hat humanity often doesn’t know how to stretch. we are so absorbed in ourselves many times that we often don’t notice the world around us. especially in this technological diaspora. ah well. beautiful photographs.

Haha I’ve gotten to a point where I have so much black that I’ve been forcing myself to buy more colour. Also I recently dyed my hair dark so I don’t want to look too dark.
I always have that in the back of my mind, it’s kind of like a permanent resolution. Yes! So true. Happy new year Batsheva x

Oh I really love this faux fur. Of course we have to swap the puff with it in the snow. It is very classy. Kisses!

I used to live in Queensland and I agree! But it’s here to stay for a while so I’ve been forced to make peace with it.

You look gorgeous in that faux fur coat Maria! I think the sheer experience of climbing up to see the fireworks is unique in itself and a well spent NYE!

I actually just stayed in the apartment in my pajamas. I love it lol. PJs and watching the ball drop in Times Square from the window- I wouldn’t have it any other way! Then I promptly fell asleep lol.

I’m the same about my goals this year. I’m giving myself a break. I want to enjoy life more and spend less time stressing over work.

    Happy New Year!

Thank you Nataliya! Haha I was so close to doing that but I am glad my friend dragged me out of the house. If I had an amazing NYE view too I’d probably reconsider though. Sounds like great goals! xx
