I know right now is a bit of a funny time to be posting about exercise and athleisure clothing. The holidays are associated with eating more and relaxing, which might mean feeling a little less motivated to hit the gym. I’ll admit that I haven’t been going to the gym as often as I wanted to this month.
Nonetheless, my health is important to me, and even if I don’t make it to the gym I make sure to be active every day. As a dog owner, I start with a walk the first thing in the morning. I guess you could say I’m a morning person because I like to wake up early to fit in a walk with Lady, a yoga session, and breakfast – I hate waking up and just rushing out of the door.
That’s why I was happy to collaborate with Karma Athletics, a local (Vancouver based) yoga/athleisure brand. Athleisure is more than just a trend to me – it’s a very welcome new change in the world of sportswear. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, here is it’s definition (according to wikipedia):
Athleisure outfits are “yoga pants, tights and leggings that “look like athletic wear” characterized as “fashionable, dressed up sweats and exercise clothing”.
To be honest, I never considered myself to be an athletic person. In school I was the typical nerdy kid who got A’s and B’s in every class except for gym, where, yep, I got Cs. As a teenager I was introduced to yoga and rock climbing, and my whole attitude towards exercise changed. I now believe that anyone can find at least one type of exercise they enjoy.
That being said, I never particularly enjoyed wearing gym clothes until recent years. I think it all started with the Stella McCartney for Adidas collaboration – after that sportswear started getting a whole lot more stylish. And that makes working out just that much more enjoyable, doesn’t it?
Karma Athletics nails it when it comes to stylish sportswear, or athleisure. Their clothing is flattering, feminine, comfortable, and they use really cool prints (my favourite!). I picked out two looks that I’d easily wear for a walk with Lady, a yoga or rock climbing session. Which do you prefer?
