Athleisure With Karma Athletics

I know right now is a bit of a funny time to be posting about exercise and athleisure clothing. The holidays are associated with eating more and relaxing, which might mean feeling a little less motivated to hit the gym. I’ll admit that I haven’t been going to the gym as often as I wanted to this month.

Nonetheless, my health is important to me, and even if I don’t make it to the gym I make sure to be active every day. As a dog owner, I start with a walk the first thing in the morning.  I guess you could say I’m a morning person because I like to wake up early to fit in a walk with Lady, a yoga session, and breakfast – I hate waking up and just rushing out of the door.

That’s why I was happy to collaborate with Karma Athletics, a local (Vancouver based) yoga/athleisure brand. Athleisure is more than just a trend to me – it’s a very welcome new change in the world of sportswear. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, here is it’s definition (according to wikipedia):

Athleisure outfits are “yoga pants, tights and leggings that “look like athletic wear” characterized as “fashionable, dressed up sweats and exercise clothing”.

To be honest, I never considered myself to be an athletic person. In school I was the typical nerdy kid who got A’s and B’s in every class except for gym, where, yep, I got Cs. As a teenager I was introduced to yoga and rock climbing, and my whole attitude towards exercise changed. I now believe that anyone can find at least one type of exercise they enjoy.

That being said, I never particularly enjoyed wearing gym clothes until recent years. I think it all started with the Stella McCartney for Adidas collaboration – after that sportswear started getting a whole lot more stylish. And that makes working out just that much more enjoyable, doesn’t it?

Karma Athletics nails it when it comes to stylish sportswear, or athleisure. Their clothing is flattering, feminine, comfortable, and they use really cool prints (my favourite!). I picked out two looks that I’d easily wear for a walk with Lady, a yoga or rock climbing session. Which do you prefer?

Wow, what time do you get up to walk your dog, do yoga and have breakfast? I get up 5:30 everyday but I have to leave for work at 6:45, so I don’t really have much time to do anything more than dress up and eat breakfast. 😉 You yoga poses are so good, mines are very bad now since I haven’t done it for a while.

I wake up at 6:30, I leave for work at 9 🙂 I’m lucky I have a job that starts a bit later so I have more time in the morning. If I had to leave for work that early I probably wouldn’t wake up at 4 to do my usual routine haha. At least you get breakfast in! I know so many people that skip it. Thank you Grace, I always appreciate your comments too 🙂

You sure look athletic! I run regularly, but I need to incorporate strength training if I want to get any faster (I’m frustratingly slooow). Plus there’s no harm in looker leaner and meaner 😉
This is a very pretty yoga line and I love both prints. I really think it’s great if sportswear looks fab enough to wear on other occasions, too!

Thanks! I can do workouts and that kind of stuff but I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to group sports or anything that involves a ball. I can literally count the number of times I’ve shot a basketball into the hoop on one hand lol. I’m not a very fast runner either :/
Strength training isn’t that bad as long as you find exercises you like 🙂
